Youth work is powerful, but too often its value remains unseen or unheard beyond the immediate circles of young people and practitioners. This workshop is designed to equip youth workers with the tools and confidence to share impactful narratives that capture the essence and importance of their work.
Through interactive activities, participants will explore creative storytelling methods – from digital media and visual tools to participatory techniques that place young people’s voices at the centre. By experimenting with these approaches, youth workers will learn how to craft stories that not only reflect the real impact of youth work but also resonate with communities, policy makers, and funders.
The workshop also focuses on how storytelling can strengthen everyday practice. Participants will discover how narratives can support reflective practice, amplify young people’s experiences, and act as a bridge between individual stories and broader social change.
Finally, we will look at how narratives can be used to promote the value and visibility of youth work in society. Participants will leave with practical strategies for communicating youth work’s role in defending democracy, addressing inequalities, and empowering young people to shape their futures.
By the end of the session, each participant will have developed a concrete idea or action plan for integrating storytelling into their practice, ensuring that the voice and impact of youth work are seen, heard, and recognised.
