Join Dermot O'Brien where you will be invited to reflect on the heart of youth work—our journeys, values, and the impact we create alongside young people.

Beginning with Origin Stories to Now which is a short activity to celebrate where our journeys started and where we are today. This sets the tone for acknowledging the unique contributions each of us brings as youth workers.

We will then go into Why Youth Work is Done where you will revisit the values and principles of the field and explore how youth work contributes to both individual and societal outcomes.

From there, we look at Who Does Youth Work, highlighting the central role of youth workers as connectors and relationship-builders in young people’s lives.

The session also acknowledges the Challenges and Current Realities young people face, and how our proximity to their lived experiences calls for presence, care, and perspective—even when solutions are not ours to provide.

We close with Guiding Lights, a small-group activity to identify what sustains us as practitioners and collectives, ensuring that we continue to nurture ourselves, each other, and ultimately the young people we serve.

This workshop is designed to affirm the value of youth work, strengthen our shared sense of purpose, and build collective resilience for the journey ahead.
